Rep Program
Barrie Minor Baseball Rep teams play in the York Simcoe Baseball Association (YSBA), an affiliate of Baseball Ontario. Team selection begins in September with fall tryouts, which leads to team activities starting in October and indoor winter workouts from January to April. League play starts the first week of May against other teams in Simcoe County, York Region, parts of Durham Region and Toronto.
Program Components
On average, 13-14 players are selected for each team. Registration fees for competitive players are approximately double the cost of house league. An additional fee in the spring can be avoided if the team raises enough through sponsorship and fundraising.
A typical season consists of the following:
- 20-25 regular season games
- 3-5 weekend tournaments (1-2 out of town with a hotel stay)
- Practices (1 per week on average)
- York Simcoe Qualifiers in mid-August
- Baseball Ontario Championships on Labour Day weekend for teams that qualify (earlier for Midget)
Off-season commitments:
- Indoor winter workouts (1 per week on average, January to April)
- Occasional fall workouts, if available
- Parent/player meetings
- Fundraising
- Team building
Required equipment:
- Baseball glove
- Baseball cleats
- Navy batting helmet
- Bat
Optional equipment:
- Catcher's glove and protective gear
- Batting gloves
The league will provide the required uniform: jersey(s), pants and hat. Players also require protective athletic support, a navy belt and navy baseball socks. Many players purchase "slider" shorts and additional pants. Team equipment for 13U and below will include catcher's gear, although many players prefer to use their own.
